A Wedding Cake with a Difference.
Of all the cakes I make, the ones I get the most excited about are the ones which have a story behind them. And especially when that story is a love story. Who doesn’t love a good love story?!
So when I am asked to make a wedding cake which incorporates a couples love story I couldn’t be happier.
A while ago I was approached by a bride who was getting married and the groom had left the cake design for her to choose so she decided she would surprise him with a non traditional cake which told part of their story.
They had been on holiday to see the Northern Lights, sleeping in an igloo under the stars and her groom popped the question!
They decided that their colour scheme would be green like the northern lights they had seen and they wanted them to be incorporated into the cake too.
The bride sent me picture of them in their hats, suits and the igloo they were staying in and asked me to recreate it in cake!
The Cake was a simple white which was covered in glistening snow, the bride and groom were in their red snow suits which they had worn on the day and the bride was wearing an exact copy of her bobble hat. They sat round a fire at night so I included this also.
I asked the bride to send me a picture of how she remembered the Northern Lights on the night they got engaged, I made a backdrop from this picture to add a more dramatic effect to the cake.
After the big day the bride contacted me to say thank you for their cake, she said that the groom had loved the cake and it was a great talking point at the reception. I loved making this Cake and playing a little part in the Bride and Groom’s big day.
Themed wedding cakes are becoming more and more popular, as people opt to have a more intimate, personal receptions. I for one love this new trend and can’t think of a better way to bring a personal touch to your cake cutting than a bespoke themed wedding cake.
